Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing offensive against it by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - reported they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their airspace.

In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the region.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated it was attacking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on the Islamic Republic launched by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.

Regional Fallout

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses responded to the projectiles with notable success and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments landed in a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
