Shock as Popular South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.

A prominent South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the metropolis of Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before running away.

The purpose of the attack has not been established and no arrests are in custody, police said.

How It Happened

Police said that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location near the city center landmark.

He had devoted time at the property overseeing the implementation of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by squatters, as per local media.

"The report indicates the victim was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report stated.

Security camera video reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what looked like a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but fell down on the opposite side of the road.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.

Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the scene.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities have requested anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.

"We know they walked a long distance after the attack, and police have been tracking them to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.

Family and Public Reaction

His family member, a close relative, expressed the relatives are devastated to process his death.

"I am devastated. I am shattered," she said.
"We know he was a voice for many people. He spoke out bravely about topics not many people were willing to speak about. This is a tremendous loss."

She requested the citizens to avoid sharing graphic images from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's children.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local TV network.

In addition to his work in broadcasting, Stock was engaged in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including private security, providing elite guarding services and protecting prestigious gatherings across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and was involved in tenant removals.

A government minister remarked he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's murder.

"He spoke his truth boldly and honestly. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a minister. He was a pure example of who we ought to be," was his tribute.

A public representative commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director noted that "DJ Warras was more than just a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a true devotee of sound and a kind-hearted individual who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His commitment to his craft left an indefinable mark."

In a release, the broadcaster he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, kindness and sharp wit, adding that his memory "will be remembered".
