The Duke of York gives up his title as Duke of York.
Prince Andrew is giving up his designations, including the Duke of York, he has stated in a own words.
He has been under increasing attention over his associations with convicted criminal the financier, with demands for the monarchy to take action against him.
That now looks to have resulted in the royal deciding to willingly hand back his designations and to give up membership of the Order of the Garter.
In his message he said he continued to "firmly deny the claims against me".
"In talks with the monarch, and my immediate and broader family, we have agreed the continued allegations about me take away from the work of the monarch and the Royal Family," said a announcement from Prince Andrew.
"I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my relatives and land first.
"I support my choice five years ago to stand back from public life.
"With His Majesty's agreement, we think I must now go a further step. I will therefore no longer hold my honor or the awards which have been granted to me. As I have said previously, I firmly dispute the accusations against me."
Prince Andrew has encountered a series of controversies, among them a lawsuit he settled with the plaintiff, inquiries about his money matters and his involvement with an accused intelligence operative.
He will continue to be a prince - but will stop to be the the Duke, a title bestowed from his the late Queen, the former monarch.
Andrew had already ended to be a "active member" and had forfeited the use of his HRH title and no longer participated at official royal events. His status now will be even more reduced.
His former spouse will be known as Sarah and no longer Duchess of York, but their daughters will persist to have the designation of royal princess.
He has been under strong scrutiny over his connections with disgraced financier the financier, more recently featuring inquiries about when he had really ended contact.
In his media discussion, the royal had said that he had severed all links with the financier after they had been seen together in the city in the end of 2010.
But emails sent in the following year later surfaced suggesting that the prince had in private continued in contact with him, such as sending a communication: "Remain connected and we'll have further interactions soon!"
There had been mounting annoyance in Buckingham Palace at the scandals that persisted to surround the prince.
Next week a posthumous memoir by Giuffre will be issued which is expected to draw additional attention on Prince Andrew's association with the plaintiff and Jeffrey Epstein.
