The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Thriller That Blends Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs digital showcase unveiled several fascinating future games, but one especially has seized the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a unique experience where a girl containing multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Entering a Shattered Consciousness

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four distinct souls, each with unique fears and motivations. These entities can seize control spontaneously, releasing their deep-seated phobias upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy hospital, while additional clips show the protagonist exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Personal Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uneasy?" poses game director Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Elements that seem trivial to other people can activate a deep instinct within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the protagonist one after another. When the soul changes, so does the particular terror the player experiences.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

At first glance, UN:Me shares noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The setting is filled with orderlies all sporting the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their heads should be. Floral motifs are a recurring element, juxtaposing organic elegance with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a singular twist. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the heroine is the "real" one. "Each of the souls claims that the body belongs to them," notes a creator. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player have deduced a soul is fake, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can deceive or obfuscate the truth, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," a voice suggests. "The last one standing might be a fraud. In any case, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced release date, but it is available to wishlist on digital storefronts.
