The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
