Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has a Plan for How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... Currently.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” Gilligan says. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
With the first season of the acclaimed series wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will impact the storyline of Pluribus.
Regarding the Tremendous Audience Reaction
One could easily to get swayed by the rampant praise and audience predictions regarding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“The experience is akin to an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever plan to. Not because I don't care. It's a deep trap I know I would get lost in and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.
“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“Better to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
The Central Mystery: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?
Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? The answer is yes… with some caveats.
“There are some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a better idea. That philosophy has guided us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?
“My dream is Carol to awaken next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.
Pluribus is streaming now on the streaming service.
